Dissecting the fall - The Bolton Nomination

Surely if America ends in the dustbin of history, a dissection of the fall of the United States would have to point to the nomination and (apparent) confirmation of John Bolton to the UN as the moment we (the citizens of the U.S.) should have known we were headed down. And that not so much for the low esteem that his nomination demonstrates that the Bush administration has for the United Nations…after all not much to praise there.

No, it is the complete lack of regard that the Bolton nomination shows for America and what America should mean to the world that is the warning sign. Bolton is clearly a man of extreme arrogance…that is really not disputed by anyone-including his supporters, directly anyway. Bolton’s arrogance is of a level that defies the gravity of reality…and his nomination shouts for us that this administration is plunging all of us into deep trouble.

George Voinovich may be the only one willing to offer a rebuke to Bolton and hence to the White House, but it is so tepid that I am afraid most Americans will miss the warning clang.
